These secret laughter rings actually remind me of mini mausoleums. Somehow this led me to think of the scene in the original movie version of The Wickerman, where a school girl lifts up her desk lid to show a beetle tied to a nail by a short length of string. The beetle walks/orbits the nail. It is a morbid scene, but is maybe also a reference to a timepiece? In fact the whole movie is pre-occupied with death and death ritual…see it.

I like the secret laughter idea… very cool. have you seen this video about a laughing Bodhisattva in metro. quite moving about the power of laughter.
